Westmill Energy

Westmill Energy is an energy cooperative who champion community energy projects and renewables education. They required a new identity and website to represent all 3 child coops under one roof. They required a new brand and a new website that bought together the three main pillars; Solar, Wind and Education. Much of the information on the 3 existing websites was outdated and required rebuilding from scratch.

Due to the large, diverse teams across all 3 coops, we needed to bring together all stakeholders in Figjam to outline key user journeys and lay out provisional sitemaps. In addition, we conducted a mini brand workshop allowing us to pin down the new brand’s desired audience, messaging and direction.

Discovery

Creating wireframes and Figma prototypes allowed multiple teams across the wider Westmill team to share, interact and provide feedback as a cohesive group during their weekly roundtables.

We determined 4 key user journeys based on existing data and user research, while also looking to streamline contact avenues for information requests.

Design & Build

The site brought together 3 main areas; Solar, Wind and Renewables Education. We created a design system that made it clear which section the user was currently browsing using the three primary brand colours. The site was designed in a modular style, adhering to the client’s requested CMS content builder, Beaver Builder for WordPress.

I applied a fresh new brand identity and implemented an illustrated asset library throughout the site.

I also worked with the client-side project manager to collate and delegate content production while the site build was in process, reducing bottlenecks with site population.
