Central England Coop | Boardgames

I’ve created a number of projects for Central Coop, including a number of educational tools for use in schools. First, I was asked to create a version of Snakes and Ladders aimed at educating younger children about Fairtrade products, and the positive impact that buying their products has on the producers. The board and box were produced with a mix of digital illustration by hand and Illustrator, and production sourced from UK based suppliers with sustainability in mind. Larger vinyl mat versions were made for use outside.

Following on from this successful project, I was asked to create a second game for their financial education department. Originally a concept similar to monopoly was proposed, however we settled on creating a wholly original game from scratch. I created an original concept, game mechanics and illustrated design. The game itself had three playing modes, enabling a range of age range suitability. For younger players, simple cards posed various questions and scenarios relating to everyday finance for discussion. For older players, a more complex player persona card could be selected, before making their way around the board, collecting wages and avoiding surprise bills. A reference card was created showing the average household cost of everyday items, and a typical payslip breakdown on the reverse.

All printed game parts; including money, player cards, board and box were again sourced from a UK Supplier using FCS materials for sustainability.
